On June 13 to 14, 2017, the annual meeting and the 14th student graduation ceremony of the Sino-U.S. talent training program were held jointly by the International Education Exchange Center and the American Association of State Universities and College (AASCU) in dalian jiaotong university, in order to further implement the national medium - and long-term plan for the reform and development of education (2010-2020) and the Sino-U.S. high-level consultation mechanism on people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and deepen the cooperation between the two countries. 280 representatives from 85 universities in China and 22 universities in the U.S. have gathered to discuss the development of the education. The theme of the meeting is “the sustainable development of cultural exchanges”. And the meeting consists of four parts, including studying in China -- the trend and pattern of symposium, the innovation of the 21st century international talent -- training seminars, the presidents forum of the universities of China and the U.S. and the 14th student graduation ceremony. Zhang WeiHu, vice president of XUST, attended the meeting, and the manager of International Exchange and Office attended the annual meeting.
During the meeting, Zhang WeiHu, vice president of XUST, communicated with some leaders of universities in U.S., like University of North Alabama, Eastern Washington University, California State University, San Bernardino, Coastal Carolina University and so on.
At the graduation ceremony, vice president Zhang and the leaders of U.S. colleges and universities awarded double degrees to 6 student representatives who was the participators of the 121 Sino-U.S. talent training program. It’s said that 11 XUST students graduate from Troy University, Eastern Washington University, University of North Alabama, University of North Texas and so on. Six graduates who won the title of “outstanding graduate of 2017”are Ye ZhanMing, Lin WanXuan, Yi JiangNan, Zhang YiYing, Cao XiangZhi and Yan BinBin.
It’s 17 years that the 121 Sino-U.S. talent training program has started for. The project has been developed from one-way communication to two-way communication. The field of communication has been extended from undergraduate to scholars and management personnel training. By the end of 2017, the number of exchange students of the project is 3032.
The project created a new talent training mode for the higher education cooperation and exchange between China and the United States, at the same time, it was listed in the seventh round of the Sino-U.S. cultural exchanges result list, making contributions to cultural exchanges of China and the United States. It has become one of the most important platforms in the field of higher education, the longest continuous time, the most extensive cooperation and communication between China and the U.S..
As one of the four founding schools of the project, XUST has sent 153 students to the U.S. since 2001. In September 2017, XUST will send two students to the U.S. to participate in 121 projects.and 22 XUST teachers will be sent to study in the U.S.at the same time. In addition, XUST will become the first university in shaanxi province to be awarded the “121 double degree program experimental class of Sino-U.S.talent plan” in 2017, and XUST will enroll students whose major are business management or software engineering to the experimental class in 2018.
In the future, XUST will strengthen the cooperation with the U.S universities, provide more opportunities for XUST students and teachers to go abroad, and effectively improve the international reputation of XUST.
